Round 11: Sorrento FC 1 Bayswater City 1
Coach Jamie Harnwell made full use of his squad with a number of changes as the Gulls played their 3rd game in 8 days against Bayswater City in Round 11 at Percy Doyle Reserve on Saturday.
City took the lead in the first half through Gordon Smith. The attacking midfielder received the ball outside the Gulls area before dribbling past 3 defenders and finishing at the second attempt. It was a good goal by Smith but the Gulls will not be happy with their defending.
The Gulls equalised through captain Jordan Brown who scored his 2nd goal in 4 days. Daniel Faichney and Ryan McLaughlin had both surged forward down the left and as Bayswater attempted to clear, the ball broke to Jordan Pokler. Pokler hit an excellent ball to the far post and Brown rose above his marker to head over the Bayswater keeper into the net.
The Gulls had chances to win it but ran out of steam towards the end due to the effects of the last 8 days exertions and both teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
We have now reached the halfway stage of the season and the Gulls sit in a respectable 4th place.
Next week the Gulls will need to be at their best to beat a resurgent Cockburn City side who are fresh off 2 impressive victories against Perth SC and ECU Joondalup respectively.
Come down and support the lads as they look to consolidate their strong start to the season
