Sorrento FC 5 Perth Glory 1
5-Star Sorrento crush Glory
Round 8 saw the Gulls play Perth Glory in the showpiece of the annual Football West Festival of Football, held this year at the Centennial Stadium in Bunbury.
Sorrento took the lead on 14 minutes. Ollie Annis put Cameron Teece away down the right hand side. Teece put an early ball into the 6 yard box to Jakob Prajza who finished after some great footwork.
Glory were back level after 22 minutes. A corner on the left was swung in by Gio Colli and Ale Circati finished with header on the far post.
The Gulls were back in front on 35 minutes as an Annis corner was met by a bullet header from captain Shaun Kilkelly for his first goal of the season and that’s how it stayed until half time.0
On 51 minutes, it was 3-1. A period of Sorrento pressure ended with a Clark Keltie shot which was parried by Glory keeper Sam Reilly into the path of Teece, who smashed in the rebound.
Soon after a quick break from Sorrento saw Keltie play a brilliant ball forward towards Teece. The big striker powered through on goal, holding off Mason Tatafu and Josh Rawlings and finished expertly past Reilly. 4-1 to the Gulls.
Any remote chance Glory had of coming back into the game ended when wing-back Painter-Andrews received a second yellow card for an instinctive tug back on Prajza.
Ten man Glory pushed forward but were again caught on 80 minutes as a brilliant through ball from Teece was clinically finished by Zdenek Bezdek.
That’s how it finished and a very satisfied coach Jamie Harnwell now sees his Gulls team soaring in third place with 3 games to go in this stage of the campaign.
Next week on Saturday 22 August sees the visit of Armadale Soccer Club to Percy Doyle Reserve as the Gulls look to continue their great run of form.
