No luck for the Gulls

Luck was not on the Gulls side as Gwelup Croatia came out 3-0 winners.

After 12 minutes, a well-worked one-two between Hasani Sinclair and Nduma Makeche ended with Sinclair curling the ball around Gulls keeper Matt Giudicatti to put Gwelup 1-0 up.

Sorrento had a great chance straight after when Jakob Prazja broke forward and his diagonal ball put striker Cameron Teece through. Gwelup keeper Connor Campbell made a great double-save, firstly from Teece’s left-foot shot and then from a follow up from an Ollie Annis drive.

The first half ended 1-0 to Gwelup Croatia who deserved their half-time lead.

The first 25 minutes of the second-half was all Sorrento as Gwelup struggled to get out of their own half. Luck evaded Sorrento as they had a number of chances from Teece, Annis, Tim Hill, Daniel Faichney and Alex Morgan but could not find a way through.

Then the key moment of the game as Ollie Annis received a 2nd yellow card and Sorrento were down to 10 men.

Gwelup seized their chance and late goals from Makeche and Daniel Stynes prevented any Gulls comeback.

The result was hard on the Gulls who could legitimately claim they were worth at least a point up until the sending off.

So after 2 games, Sorrento drop down to 5th in the League Table. Round 3 is the local derby next Saturday against ECU Joondalup.
