Night Series 2020 – Update
Night Series has provided the First Team Squad with some valuable fitness and game time despite the results not turning out as the club would have hoped.
Round 2 against Balcatta was a typical game of 2 halves with Sorrento well on top in the first half and Balcatta edging the 2nd. We were unlucky to lose 3-2 to a last-minute goal and the highlight was 2 goals from Ollie Annis, one direct from a corner and the other a great free-kick curled into the top corner.
Round 3 was a home tie against Armadale where the Gulls unfortunately were the victims of 2 red cards for Ollie Annis and Tristan Stevens. The lads fought valiantly despite the numerical disadvantage. Sorrento took the lead through an Alex Morgan penalty but Armadale then went 2-1 up. Earlier Morgan had hit a fantastic dipping shot from 25 yards out which unluckily hit the bar. At 35 minutes from time, a hamstring strain forced Shaun Kilkelly to make way for 16-year-old Daniel Faichney. In virtually Faichney’s first touch of the game, he beat his man and smashed the ball past the Armadale keeper at his near post for his first First Team Goal. Sorrento then had a few chances to take the lead with another Faichney effort forcing a good save from the keeper and a couple of chances for sub Sean Canham from Faichney crosses but the Armadale defence managed to scramble the ball clear both times. Sorrento then unluckily fell behind following their second red card and the match ended Sorrento 2 v Armadale 3.
Round 4 versus Inglewood United saw the Gulls without a number of first team players including the suspended Tristan Stevens, Ollie Annis and Clark Keltie and the injured Shaun Kilkelly and Jakub Prajza. However it was great to welcome back our golden boot striker Cameron Teece and first starts of the season for midfielder Brad McDonald, defender Ryan McLaughlin and 16-year-old Daniel Faichney. The match was a real battle in which Inglewood edged it in terms of possession, territory and scoreline. Alex Morgan scored for the Gulls but it finished Sorrento FC 1 v Inglewood United 2
