Easter Drama at the Doyle – Morgan the hero as Gulls beat the Jacks
Sorrento FC 1 v 1 ECU Joondalup 1 (Sorrento FC win on penalties)
Sorrento FC bounce back from an unlucky 1-0 deafeat against Rockingham with a dramatic last gasp win over local rivals ECU Joondalup in the FFA Cup on Easter Monday.
Goalkeeper James Morgan was the hero with a last gasp 97th minute goal, as he smashed the ball home from a corner causing wild celebrations in the crowd. A memorable display from Morgan was followed up with penalty save in the penalty shoot-out taking Sorrento FC through to the next round.
In other action earlier in the day, Sorrento 20’s lost 2-1 to ECU Joondalup 20’s with ECU scoring late to progress.
The day started with Sorrento 18s beating ECU Joondalup 18s in a 2-1 win. Jamie Swan scored in the first half as Sorrento took the lead but ECU equalised in the second half. Rapturous scenes followed both on and off the pitch as Nathan Frith smashed home the winner from a corner in the last minute, as our 18s progress to the next round.
